The 54th edition of the statesman vintage and classic car rally will be held on 19 January at the RCTC ground.

Around 150 vintage and classic cars and two wheelers are likely to take part in the rally. The flag off will take place at 10am. The cars and bikes will travel a 25 km route before coming back to the originating point. On 17-18 January, a team of judges will examine the cars.

The oldest car in the rally is a Renault built in 1906. This is followed by a German vehicle Stoewer, the only one to exist in the country probably. The Rolls Royce, in which Dr Rajendra Prasad travelled to take oath as the first President of India will take part in the rally. A plymouth used by Hemanta Mukherjee has increased the prestige of the rally along with a Triumph, once owned by Jackie Shroff. American giant Studebacker, Chevrolet, Dodge, DeSoto will participate in the rally. There will be Austin, Morris and MG.

Pallab Roy, owner and vintage car collector said the Statesman has given encouragement to the owners of old cars by organising the rally. He talked about the maintenance of old cars. Amitava Saha said the Statesman vintage and classic car rally is the second oldest rally in the world. Dr Ananda Chandra thanked the Statesman for holding the rally for the past five decades.

Gobinda Mukherjee, business head of the organisation, Suman Bhattacharya, senior vice-president, Shekhar Sengupta, editor Dainik Statesman attended the press conference which was held at the Press Club. The press conference was moderated by Debashis Das, chief reporter of Dainik Statesman.
